The school CEIBas Arteaga is located in Murcia, Southeast of Spain and teach pupils in the following range of ages: 3 to 5 (Kindergarten), 6 to 11 (Primary school) and 12 to 16 (Secondary school). In total there are about 400 pupils and 40 teachers. The school has developed the CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) since 2011 and some subjects are taught in English: Natural Science, Arts and Applied Knowledge - in Primary Education - and PE and Arts – in Secondary Education. The CLIL approach has improved the language competence of students in a foreign language.
The school has always been interested in promoting cooperation and mobility with other schools in Europe as a way to strengthen the European dimension in education. They started in 2009 with their first Comenius project and the experience was so interesting that in 2012 they started another project and nowadays they continue with the new Erasmus+ projects. It is an enthusiastic school, ready for exchanging knowledge and applying new methodologies in teaching. The arrival of smartboards and new technologies to their classes was quite a challenge for their teachers who have learnt to integrate them into their didactic programs. Nowadays, the new educational law in Spain has demanded new challenges for the school community such as entrepreneurship teaching or cooperative learning. As a consequence, the school applied in 2015 and 2017 for two KA1 projects to train teachers with courses and job shadowing visits. It has been a fantastic experience among the school community that will be further developed in this new project about “Science Outside the Classroom”. |
